Superman suit... *check*

When you’re raised with limited resources, those resources are what force you to be creative. Today the opposite is the case. We’re forced to use strictly digital tools in limited color spaces with limited time and budget in pursuit of a fast turnaround.

With digital tools people are held to certain solutions so they’re less likely to solve problem’s outside of their supplied tool box. With traditional tools like colored pencils or water colors or even clay you could apply color to most anything you’d like and as a child you often would.

Are we forgetting to create with everything truly available? Are we shooting a green CYC wall out of habit while we should be using real props and capturing what we can in camera. Conversely are we putting “Like” buttons and twitter feeds were we simply need a phone number?

Let’s make sure incoming talent understands the value of sketching and getting pastels on your hands and having ready access to an x-acto blade. Not everyone needs an air compressor running incessantly by their desk, but an ink smudge could lead to a creative breakthrough. One that couldn’t be clicked and dragged.
